Pigmented Pine Tar Oils
For treating facades, terraces & other outdoor wood projects
If you care about your house
Auson Tar Paints & Tar Oils are the obvious choice for facades, terraces and other outdoor wooden surfaces from both an aesthetic and functional perspective. By using our products, you return the wood's own protective substances to the wood. Our Tar products do not remain on the surface, but penetrate deeply. They allow the wood to breathe and prevent the ingress of moisture and other things that can cause damage.
Whatever outdoor project you choose to treat – you can count on a timelessly beautiful and durable result!
Sludge paint can be painted over

Prevents dehydration and cracking
Our Tar products prevent drying out and cracking by being both water-resistant and creating a flexible surface that can move in step with the natural expansion of the wood. They protect the wood from moisture and temperature changes, reducing the risk of cracking. Our Tar also provides protection against UV radiation that can dry out the wood.
Does not stain or flake
When our Tar products penetrate the wood, they bring the pigment with them. This provides a durable color that not only protects the wood from the elements, but also preserves its natural beauty. The surface becomes durable and the paint stays where it should – without staining or flaking. Unlike sludge paint, you can easily lean on a façade painted with our products.
No priming needed
You never have to prime when you choose one of our products. Since Auson Tar products have a natural ability to penetrate the wood and create a protective barrier, it acts as both a foundation and a finished treatment in one.
Pine tar comes from the forest
Our Tar products are of high quality and contain pine tar, a natural ingredient directly from the forest. Our products replenish your timber with the wood's own protective substances, so that you extend the life of the façade by many years. Treating wood with pine tar is a method dating back to the Middle Ages, known to provide long-lasting protection. Therefore, many of the oldest and most valuable cultural buildings in the Nordic countries can only be treated with tar.
It is a beautiful and fragrant way to let wood live, breathe and be preserved.
Few repaints
Auson Tar products provide a long-lasting result. Our Tar Paints & Tar Oils only require repainting if necessary – usually after several years. Expect at least six to eight years between repaintings. It's easy to maintain, as you just need to clean the surface and apply a new coat of paint. The maintenance intervals become longer with each layer of tar, as each coat provides increased protection.
Paint over sludge paint
5 tips on how to paint over sludge paint
- Remove loose sludge paint with a wire brush or pressure washer.
- Paint at a minimum of 10°C. Then the tar products penetrate the wood faster.
- Paint with a wide brush (e.g. 70-100 mm).
- För hyvlat trä rekommenderar vi extra spädning med 10-20% Auson Balsamterpentin. Huvudregeln är att Tjärfärgen ska spädas så mycket att den lätt kan strykas ut med pensel i tunna lager.
- Paint an entire board at a time to get a smooth surface without shade differences. Finish painting an entire wall at a time.

Thousand-year-old wood protection straight from the forest
From Viking ships to modern villas and outdoor furniture. Pine tar is like jeans – a durable classic that never goes out of style. The Vikings were among the first to discover the amazing properties of wood tar to protect ships and house facades from rot. Auson has combined the impregnating properties of wood tar with modern, natural colours. The result is a paint that is easy to get "tar" in. In addition, it is a tribute to our forest.
Pine tar is a natural ingredient from the forest. It is produced by dry distillation of resinous wood, especially pine. Our raw materials are of high quality. As a solvent, we use Auson Gum Turpentine, which is also extracted from trees. The result is a paint that protects and strengthens the wood while giving it a beautiful natural colour.
