Barn House in Tarvitriol
Welcome to Luhrsjöladan – an accommodation close to nature with views of both lake and forest and open pastures. The barn with panels in tar vitriol is a Fiskarheden villa inspired by the house model Glimre.
Large windows make nature ever-present, and soft, earthy colors that follow up the tarry white of the facade also dominate indoors. The motto for the entire house has been to create a timeless home with wise, sustainable choices to live with for a long time.
What did you like most about the Tar Vitriol?
The fact that pine tar is naturally protective was important to us, but aesthetics also played a role. Here we got everything we wanted in one product.
How did you discover the tarry vitriol?
It was a day in February and we went for a walk to look at facades. The facade we went to look at did not meet our expectations, but in the same area there was a house that piqued our curiosity. It was exactly the shade we were looking for! The family was out and we could ask what they had painted with. Tar vitriol, was the answer from the helpful house owners. There and then the matter was settled. We had read about the color before, but it was important to see it in real life.
How long did you paint?
We painted in two stages. First we painted all the panels once before putting them up. It was summer and we were lucky with the weather so we could stand outside and paint plank after plank. During the drying period, we stored the panel in an airy barn. The panel, spruce tongue-and-groove panel in three different widths, was installed in the fall. The following summer, we ironed everything a second time ourselves and that also worked smoothly.
What comments have you received on the house?
The location and the obvious interaction between inside and outside appeal to many. It is also what we like best. It’s easy to feel at home here.
What are you most satisfied with?
How well the color works with the surrounding nature. The tar vitriol has the same vibrant hue as the tree trunks around the house.
Three arguments for painting with tar vitriol?
That pine tar is a natural protection, that it is easy to use and does not require much maintenance in the future.
