Black tarred log house at Anten
Eight years ago, the house had no electricity, kitchen or toilet. Today, Kjell Persson’s old log house from 1928 has been given a major facelift both inside and out.
Last summer he painted over the dark brown facade with Black Tar.
– I had previously used Dalbränd wood tar from another supplier, but I found that the color disappeared so quickly. When I discovered Black Tar by chance, I was immediately curious. Now I’m looking forward to not having to paint every summer, plus the color turned out great,” says Kjell Persson.
The charming and unique log house is located on a hill about 1.5 miles outside Alingsås. The plot is a full 5,000 square meters with an adorable view of Lake Anten. The house was in great need of renovation when Kjell bought it.
– Now it’s completely renovated, but I’ve put a lot of focus on keeping the old charm and style of the house. I get a lot of comments about how nice the house has become – both by the renovation and by the new black tarred facade. The house has gotten a real boost!
Held the brush himself
Kjell has spent countless hours on the renovation and it was also he who held the brush this summer. The painting itself took three full days.
“Next year, I’ll probably paint over a red distemper-painted outbuilding and a woodshed with Red Tar. I was thrilled to hear that you could paint over distemper paint. Simple, attractive, and durable are my best arguments for why one should choose wood tar for their house,” says Kjell.
Some tips from Kjell
- Pay close attention to the preparation – brush the house before painting.
- Cover up what you are not going to paint
- Choose a sunny day! When the wood is warm from the sun, the result is best, and it’s more pleasant to paint when the weather is nice.
