Nature’s own paint in Denmark

In the Danish village of Skaerbaek, the Wallin family’s house is close to both the forest and the sea, and across the road there is a horse paddock and a gravel road that runs through the old parts of the village. The old beech forest on the outskirts of Skaerbaek offers beautiful walks in the forest.
Ida Wallin tells:

– The village we live in is next to the water with both fishing and sailing boats, so the idea of using a tar product to protect the wood while giving it a nice patina felt completely natural. Over time, the choice of Tar Vitriol became the only thing that felt right when we were choosing the treatment of the facade.

The first coat was done over four days by three people before the facade was nailed up, and the second coat was done the following year over two days. While it was being painted, it smelled like a fine old fishing boat, but this disappeared after just a few weeks.

The family has received many positive comments about the design and color of the house.

The slowly graying wood has become incredibly beautiful and gives the house a lovely subdued style. We wanted to create a clean and stylish, yet cozy and inviting home. The house, which was built with consideration for the plot’s layout, also features decks treated with Pine Tar Oil.

The tar vitriol is easy to apply and it absorbs quickly, it is exciting to follow the change in color over time. The wood retains its clear veins and acquires a fine gray patina during the first year.

We at Auson congratulate you on a fantastically beautiful house filled with Tarmony!
