Dream house by the sea in Obbola
Johan and Johanna Söderlund started building their house in 2021, after visiting the site several times. The first few times we weren’t thrilled at all, but on our last visit we fell head over heels in love. The plot is on a corner, just 50 meters from the sea, in a magical pine forest with big rocks, blueberry bushes and lots of wildlife. In addition, we have sun from morning to evening, which means that summers here are warm and wonderful, even though we live in Obbola in Norrland. The winters give us lots of snow and cold days, which we love! The plot was linked to a house manufacturer, but we couldn’t find a house that suited us. Instead, we sent in our own drawings and had the house built according to our ideas and wishes. We paid attention to details that they couldn’t do in the prefab factory, which meant we had to do a lot ourselves – including the exterior cladding. We wanted a stylish look without waist flashing and lining around windows and doors. In the fall of 2021, the house was finished, and we could finally move in. We are incredibly happy and really enjoy living here.
When it came to choosing the color of the house, the choice was obvious to us. Johan had previously used Tar Vitriol when he built his first house in 2014 in the mountains, and we loved both the aesthetics and functionality. Tar vitriol gives a beautiful, natural gray color over the years and protects the house fantastically well against rot. Using natural materials throughout our house felt right, and plastic colors didn’t feel right at all. We wanted the house to blend in with the pine trees and have a natural, stylish look. Tar vitriol is a fantastic color to work with, you don’t have to spend time priming, it smells good/natural and it grays beautifully over the years.
We chose to paint our pergola, which is connected to the house, in Black Tar to match the black details on the windows. It turned out so nice and stylish! We will also use Black Tar on our vegetable garden beds. The black attracts heat, which benefits the plants and provides a nice contrast to the house.
The house quickly became popular with neighbors and passers-by. Every summer we get compliments on our house, and many have said that our house is the nicest in the neighborhood. That is so nice to hear! Several of our neighbors have also chosen to use Tar Vitriol after seeing our house. We are most pleased with how the color has changed over the years and how it has kept the wood paneling protected.
Tar Vitriol has really been a fantastic choice – both for us and for the house. Three good reasons to use Tar Vitriol:
- It’s easy to work with
- It looks amazing and gives a beautiful patina
- It protects the house fantastically well
