Dream house on the cliff by the sea

The house, built in 2018, stands on a cliff just a few meters above sea level and the water.
The changes in the weather, the reflection of the sunlight on the water, the endlessly varying colors of the sea and sky are constantly strongly reminded.

Eva says, “When we got the opportunity to build our house on a cliff on Tjörn, right by the sea, we were clear from the start that the house with its color scheme should blend as well as possible into the natural surroundings. Be one with the gray granite. A house in such a location will always be very exposed to sun, wind and water. That’s why we were also looking for something that could withstand the stresses of the weather well, without constant repainting.

The tar white felt just right when we found it. – We knew what shade we wanted for the house so that it would blend in with the rock. At the same time, we wanted a color that would bring out the beautiful texture of the wood and also with minimal maintenance. We visited many paint retailers to find what we were looking for. One of them told us about tar vitriol, which was unknown to us until then.

While the house was being built, they spent several weekends painting the facade boards for the first time. During the winter, they stood inside the then unfinished guest cottage under the garage. Later in the spring, the trestles and drying rack were moved out to the turning area in front of the house.

– We got a lot of questions about what we were painting with because it smelled so good of tar. Once the fascia boards were nailed up, we walked around the house on the scaffolding and painted a second time. We are considering painting the most exposed sides facing south once more, now that the house has been standing for a few years. Eva continues, “We have only received positive comments about our house and our choice of color. Especially about how beautifully it takes its place on our cliff facing the sea. Many people walking past our house have opened their eyes to tar vitriol, partly during the period when we built and painted actively, later it has happened that people have called at the door and asked what color we painted the house with.

What are you most satisfied with?

– The overall result was fantastic. For a wonderful house in a unique location, we have found a color that meets our high standards and those of the place. What three arguments would you say to someone else who is thinking about painting with Tar Vitriol?

  • The color is beautiful and preserves the lively feel of the wooden facade.
  • With its natural wood protection, the intervals between repainting become long, which is appreciated by those of us who want to age with our house.
  • Tar vitriol is easy to use.
