“The house has a winter coat”

You couldn’t ask for a better location. Sun all day and an unbeatable sea view. There’s really only one downside to the location – the sun and the sea winds have taken their toll on the black mud-colored facade. But now Malin and Linus’ dream house in Vallda Sandö has a new “winter coat” called Svarttjära.

– The new color feels incredibly solid and safe somehow. It feels like we’ve wrapped the house in a protected and lovely winter coat. Now we are ready for all the storms and cold sea winds of winter – what previously wore hard on the mud-colored facade, says Malin Ask.

Tired of repainting

The 226 square meter dream house was completed ten years ago. Over the years, Malin and Linus have repainted the house four times due to the wood drying out and cracking and the paint itself losing color. As summer 2017 approached, and it was time for another paint job, they decided to get to the bottom of their ‘facade problem’.

– We simply got tired of the distemper paint and having to repaint so often. We thought, what if we could find a paint that instead provides excellent impregnation and protects against the winds from the sea? It also needed to be a paint that could be used on distemper paint. We started Googling around and were pleasantly surprised when we found Svarttjära.

Comprehensive protection

The prejudice that pine tar is something thick and sticky was quickly forgotten. Malin and Linus hired two painters from Darius Bygg & Alltjänst who painted the house twice in May. – When they started painting, the closest neighbors thought the tar smell was quite noticeable, those who live a little further away just thought it smelled good. “The strong smell of tar fades after three or four weeks and turns into a pleasant scent that makes me think of boathouses in Bohuslän,” says Malin.
