The natural west coast house

Is there a natural paint that protects the facade? That’s what the Roosbergs, who live in a modern west coast house in Lerkil, asked themselves.

The house had previously been painted with Iron Vitriol and the façade was worn. Tar Vitriol was a pleasant surprise for the couple.

– We were surprised to find out that there was a product with the natural ingredient pine tar that could protect our facade and preserve the natural aging of the wood. It felt great that we could paint over the iron vitriol that has caused rust on concrete and stones around the house. Thanks to Tar Vitriol, we have a sustainable house that blends into the beautiful west coast environment,” says Jonas Roosberg.

Sofia and Jonas became the owners of the house in 2013 and in recent years they have rebuilt and adapted the house and the plot to the growing family. Instead of extending the main house further, they chose to build a small garden house and a sea house. In order to preserve the existing architecture, it was important that the color of all house facades was uniform.

Thanks to Tar Vitriol, we got a beautiful, natural shade and the best protection on all facades. In addition, the paint is easy to use, it smells good and you get an even and safe result, says Jonas. Jonas gives his advice:

Paint over with Tar Vitriol

  • Test paint one to three coats to see how the shade develops over time.
  • Tar vitriol requires minimal preparation as scraping and washing are not required. Just brush it off.
  • Some areas only need to be painted once depending on the weather, while others require two or three times.
  • Keep in mind that the true gray color only appears when the paint has dried.
  • The similarity between newly treated wood and previously iron vitriol-treated wood is great.
  • Don’t be afraid to paint on too much color.
