Tar vitriol

Auson Tar Vitriol is an obvious favorite that provides a stylish, semi-opaque and modern color. The warm gray color appears as the natural brown color of the tar fades, and only becomes more beautiful over time. The end result is a beautiful gray color that blends into any environment and preserves the wood. Tar Vitriol is based on Genuine Pine Tar, our Balsam Turpentine and a gray pigment that gives the surface a color similar to iron vitriol. It is ideal for use on wood paneling, facade timber, fences, wooden roofs, pallet collars and other outdoor wooden structures. You can use Tar Vitriol on untreated wood and on wood that has previously been treated with tar or iron vitriol.

When our tar products penetrate the wood, they carry the pigment with them. It provides a durable finish that not only protects the wood from the elements but also preserves its natural character. The surface becomes hard-wearing, and the color stays put – without rubbing off or flaking. Our Tar Products counteract drying and cracking by being both water-resistant and creating a flexible surface that can move in sync with the wood’s natural expansion. They protect the wood from moisture and temperature changes, which reduces the risk of cracks. Our tar also provides protection against UV radiation that can dry out the wood.

You never need to prime when you choose any of our products. Our Pine Tar Oil products provide a result that lasts a long time, 6-10 years depending on the area of use. For example, a deck is more exposed than a facade. Maintenance intervals become longer with each coat of tar, as each coat provides increased protection.
